LESSONS FROM A GHOST CRAB
While on a recent vacation to the seaside, I had the opportunity to observe a curious little creature called a ghost crab. It looks just like a regular crab in size, but it’s color is white. (thus, the name, “ghost”)
I took some time to really learn a few things from the interesting little character. Here are a few things it taught me.
Lesson number one:
Whenever possible blend in.
The ghost crab is so completely camouflaged that it is really almost invisible at times. It protects itself by not calling undue attention to itself.
Lesson number two:
Pause before taking action.
When I first approached, it totally froze and didn’t move at all. After assessing the situation, it then decided the best escape route, and when it did move, it kept moving forward.
It was quite fast as it left me to my final and most powerful insights.
Lesson number three:
Life is constantly changing and adaptations to challenges are essential.
As it ran, it led me to it’s escape route which was the place where the surf met the sand dunes. There were many little possible ghost crab holes, and I also realized that this space was changing every time there was a higher tide. I imagined how often these safe little hole/haven homes were destroyed, and then how quickly these little creatures would restore them.
If only we humans could adapt as quickly and easily to all of our changes and losses. We are constantly being asked to let go and rebuild and reinvent our lives.
Wishing you much love in all that you are doing.
